Here's some more background on how My Local Friend got started, and what it's all about:

My Local Friend was created because there are so many new people – many of whom are internationals – moving to Groningen. That’s great! We want to help these new residents become more integrated and really get to know the city, its culture, people and values. We want Groningen to become more diverse while maintaining its distinctive character.

My Local Friend has two programmes:

Welcome Friend & Taal Friend

Welcome Friend (English) aims to help newcomers find their way in Groningen

Taal Friend (Dutch) pairs internationals up with Stadjers to practice their Dutch conversational skills and learn a thing or two about “The Dutch Way”.

If you are an international resident looking for a Welcome or Taal Friend, or if you are a long-term local who is interested in:

- Helping out a new international to settle in the city, or
- Helping out an international to practice their Dutch
